Gala Day Wrap-Up
Our Under 15s Rugby League team recently travelled to Griffith for a competitive day of footy, taking on some of the toughest teams in the region – and doing our school proud in the process.
Game 1:
Wade High 18 def. NHS 12
We kicked off the day with a tight match against a very strong Wade High outfit, stacked with some enormous forwards. Despite being outsized, our boys never backed down. Both Windy and Harley were able to find their way over the line, and we pushed Wade all the way to the final whistle. Coach Brayden Ingram provided the team with some honest feedback after the game, helping to reset our focus ahead of the next match.
Game 2:
NHS 22 def. Marian Catholic College 0
The response was immediate and impressive. Our halves, Windy and Wurramayne, began to take full control of the game, giving early ball to outside backs Luke and Nate who capitalised with multiple tries. We were clinical in attack and tough in defence, making the most of our opportunities against the Marian team.
Game 3:
NHS 12 def. Yanco Ag 6
This was a statement win. Lachie and Ruben laid the platform with some strong, determined runs, while TJ – all 30kg of him – pulled off some incredible one-on-one, try-saving tackles. Windy was a wrecking ball, crashing through four or five defenders to stretch out and score. With this win, we proudly added another chapter to our school’s growing list of victories over Yanco Ag in 2025 – having already beaten them this year in basketball, netball, cricket, AFL, and now, their beloved rugby league.
Game 4:
Griffith High 22 def. NHS 0
Unfortunately, by our final match, injuries and fatigue caught up with us. With no one left on the bench and bodies battered, Griffith High were able to get over the top of us late in the day. Despite the result, the boys never stopped trying and showed incredible resilience.
Overall, it was a fantastic day of footy. I couldn’t be prouder of the attitude, effort, and sportsmanship displayed by our team. They were often outsized and undermanned but never outclassed, competing in every match with pride.
A massive thank you to Coach Brayden for his leadership and clear feedback throughout the day, as well as to Matari and Zavier for their help and support – you made my job easy!
