From little seeds grow mighty trees

“He who plants a tree, plants a hope.”

For many, this tree might not be special; it’s just a plant, after all. But for me, this tree represents something greater than the sum of its part.

I grew this tree a year ago, putting it in a grow bag until I could find a space to plant it in the backyard. However, there was simply no space for it.

There was no suitable place to put it in, and so it remained with me for a year; through the cold of winter to the harshest of the heat wave, this tree handled it all.

Despite not being able to plant it, I soon grew fond of the tree, who in spite of everything, continued to surprise me.

And so, after all this time, I decided to donate my tree to the school, a place where I knew it could reach its fullest potential.

I believe this tree represents most of the students in Nossal; with the right nurturing and caring, all of us can grow beyond the expectations and limits.

Every day, we push the envelope of what we can do just a bit, finding solace and comfort in tiny crevices even when others find none. And we will continue to do so every day, growing and developing, until we have roots so deep and so strong, that nothing can break us.

We all came from different environments, yet we all share a collective environment right here.

Just grow a tree. It’s worth it.
