Boarding Graduation... “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”

The Boarding House community came together recently for a truly special evening, the annual Graduation Dinner celebrating our Year 12 boarders. This event marks more than just the end of schooling; it recognises the close of a chapter lived not only within the walls of classrooms at Loreto, but within the Boarding House, a place of friendship, growth, laughter, and belonging.

Graduation is a layered experience. Like their day school friends, our boarders stand at the intersection of relief and excitement, pride and nostalgia. Yet, for those who have lived here, the farewell can feel even more poignant. This week cars have been packed, tears have been shed, the final leave form submitted. The enormity of the moment can almost slip by quietly, as our girls drive away, happy, yet also a little sad. That’s why our Graduation evening, shared with all the proud parents, staff, and “sisters” who have shared their journey, holds such significance.

The night featured heartfelt speeches from myself and Ms McCullah, along with touching tributes from each “Loreto sister” to the graduating girls. These personal reflections highlighted the individuality, humour, and kindness of each student, reminding us just how much they’ve brought to our House.

In keeping with the evening’s Dr Seuss theme, each graduate received a copy of Oh, the Places You’ll Go! , signed by the boarding staff and filled with messages of encouragement. It was a joyful nod to the adventures that lie ahead, and a reminder of the wisdom in those whimsical words: “You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

Sincere thanks go to our wonderful Kitchen team for the exceptional meal that made the evening even more memorable, and to the Year 11 Leadership Team for their service and support throughout the night.

To our graduating boarders, “You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So… get on your way!”

Congratulations!
