The Power of Young Women on Stage
This week, I’m selfishly plugging the work of our remarkable Year 10 Drama students, who have spent the semester bringing to life the electrifying Australian play Fangirls by Yve Blake. One of the things I love most about the performing arts - and about girls’ education - is the voice and energy it unleashes in our young women. This play is all about that: finding your voice, standing tall in your passions, and refusing to apologise for who you are.
Fangirls is part play, part musical comedy, and all heart. It’s a bold and brilliant exploration of what it means to be fourteen, fierce and deeply, unapologetically in love. Featuring our Year 10 Drama students in all roles (both backstage and under the lights), this production will resonate with anyone who has ever cared too much, felt too deeply, or loved too loudly. Expect laughter, a few tears, and perhaps even a mini pop concert (but that’s all we’ll say for now).
I’ve loved getting to know these students throughout the process and watching their confidence, independence and generosity of spirit grow. Their ability to lead, problem-solve and support one another has been extraordinary. Not to mention, a great run-up to leadership season for these girls next year.
With sold-out seasons in Sydney and London, Fangirls is a story that celebrates friendship, resilience, and the unbreakable spirit of fandom. Our talented students have poured their hearts into this production to create something unforgettable.
Tickets are free, but we encourage you to reserve your seats early. This promises to be a sell-out event. Join us in the Performing Arts Centre for a spectacular night of creativity, connection and the true power of young women on stage.
