Loreto Principals’ Retreat

During the September/October term break, I joined the other Loreto Principals from across Australia for the Loreto Principals’ Retreat. Together, we followed in the footsteps of Teresa Ball and Mother Gonzaga Barry in Dublin and its surrounds, and explored the legacy of Mary Ward in York. It was a deeply enriching experience that reconnected us with the origins of our shared Loreto story.

In Dublin, we visited places central to their journeys, including St Patrick’s Cathedral, the Loreto Chapel at Rathfarnham, Abbey House Cemetery, and Trinity College. We also had the privilege of visiting several Loreto schools — in Gorey, Foxrock, St Stephen’s Green, and Dalkey — each a vibrant expression of the Loreto charism in today’s world.

In York, we stayed at the historic Bar Convent and visited Plowlands, York Minster, and Mount Grace Chapel. The experience profoundly deepened my understanding of our history and strengthened my appreciation for the courageous, wise, and inspiring women whose vision continues to shape our Loreto tradition today.
