Term 4 Information

Our students have enjoyed the first three rounds of Term 4 sport, representing Loreto with skill and sportsmanship, whilst having fun. It’s wonderful to see them embrace every opportunity, including our Senior 2 basketball team, who showed great spirit on the weekend by turning a missed fixture into a fun parent vs student game when their opposition didn’t arrive.

Student Achievements

Congratulations to our outstanding athletes!

Congratulations to Year 11 students Kaysii and Grace M, and Year 9 student Grace S, on their outstanding performances at the VIVA All Schools Athletics Competition over the weekend! Each of them represented Loreto with pride and competed at an exceptional level. Well done, girls - such fantastic achievements!

The All-Schools Championships is the premier athletics carnival for school-aged students, providing an exciting opportunity to run, jump, and throw at a highly competitive level. Athletes who achieve a first or second placing in their events qualify for the 2025 Australian All Schools Championships, an incredible opportunity to compete at the national level.

A huge congratulations to Lucy M, who represented South Australia in swimming last week and came away with three medals: a silver in the 100m butterfly and bronze in both the 100m and 50m freestyle. These are outstanding results at such a high level of competition. Well done, Lucy, on your hard work and dedication in the pool!

We also celebrate Winnie K, who was selected to compete at the World Championships in aerobics and achieved an outstanding result with her team finishing in 6th place. An incredible accomplishment on the international stage!

Finally, congratulations to Chelsea J! After a series of exceptional performances at the National Championships and other selection events, Chelsea placed 3rd nationally and has been selected to represent Australia in the National Aerobic Gymnastics Team. She qualified for three international competitions and has chosen to compete at the Korean Open, travelling to Korea from 18–28 November. What an amazing achievement, well done, Chelsea!

Catholic Schools Athletics Carnival

Well done to all students who participated in last week’s Catholic Schools Athletics Carnival!

We won 47 ribbons this year, up from the 30 ribbons we won in 2024!

Loreto had some brilliant performances across the track and field events and once again I was impressed by how well our students supported each other. It’s pleasing to see how quick our students are to get around teammates who have won ribbons, to help them celebrate their special moment and to share pride in their achievements. Also, how quick they are to console others who missed out or to put arms around anyone who is exhausted after their event.

Some of our students helped the organisers by filling volunteer roles between their events. I received some lovely feedback about how courteous and professional they were.

Thank you to Ms Powell and Millie for all your help, to all the family members who came along to support the team, and to Henry who helped SACPSSA process all the scores.

Tough Stuff

Well done to our Year 3/4 Loreto Slam Dunkers basketball team who endured a very rough game last week. Sometimes junior games of sport can become a bit chaotic - players are still learning the rules and boundaries, often accompanied by novice umpires who are still learning how to control a game. Fouls get let go and games can become a bit out of control. It’s all part of learning! What was pleasing was that our girls kept playing the game the right way – working hard, focusing on the ball, using teamwork and applying our skills. We didn’t resort to fouling or rough play ourselves. We continued to work hard, even finishing the game with 4 players as several had to dash off to a music concert! We ended up losing that match - however, should be really proud of the attitude shown. The team came back this Wednesday and picked up a strong 20-2 victory.

Ace Display

It’s been a bit of a stop-start term for our tennis teams so far, with byes and forfeits halting our momentum. Last Friday both teams were able to take the court and thankfully the rain disappeared in time for us to play. The Year 6s put in a dominant display on the Patch Courts vs St Ignatius, winning 6 matches to 0. On the junior school courts, our Year 3/4/5s had a tighter tussle against St Peters Girls, eventually winning 4 matches to 2. A special mention to Marika S who came along to support her Year 6 schoolmates but ended up taking the court for the opposition who had a player away sick.

Strike Me Pink

We are away! Well done to our Year 2 Pink netball team who scored their first goal on Friday night, plus picked up their first win! Let the floodgates open.

SAPSASA Football

Well done to Paloma, Isabelle, Josie, Charlotte and Sibella who represented East Adelaide in the State AFLW Championships last week! In the tough Division 1 competition, our team won 2 matches overall, finishing in 8th place.
