Year 1 Update

WOW, what a term! We have reached the end of Semester 2 and the Year 1 students have had a few busy weeks. The highlight of the last few weeks has been Pyjama Day where students enjoyed chilling in their PJs and enjoying a special movie time with popcorn! Our students deserved this with all the hard work they have been putting in with their learning across the term. This week students attended the Year 6 Market Day where they purchased a variety of items that the Year 6 students had created, from food to fidgets to games. We also had our annual House event 'Hillsmeade's Got Talent!

All Year 1 teachers would like to wish you a wonderful, safe holiday time and hopefully it gives you and your children an opportunity to rest and reset for Semester 2.

Our Learning -Term 2 -Week 10 and Term 3 -Week 1

In English students will:

- investigate Stage 7.2 trigraph 'air' as in 'airy fairy fair'

- revise all Stage 7.2 sounds

- revise rhythm and rhyme in poetry

- make text to self connections between various texts and students lives

In Maths students will:

- continue investigating analogue clocks and time

- investigate hands on subtraction using a variety of concrete materials and number stories

In Inquiry students will:

-discover what is Country and indigenous perspectives

In S.E.L (Social, Emotional, Learning), students will:

- learn about labels being for jars, not for people

- engage in Hillsmeade Primary School's 'Kindness Campaign'

Term 3 - Week 6 - Tuesday 19th August: Curriculum Day. No students at school.
Read with your child every night and practise reading Heart words
Return library bags with books on your child's library day
Check Compass regularly for ongoing reporting and updates on your child's learning
