Serving Up Success

Thomas Price
Year 7
From the 19th – 21st of September I went to Sydney to play in the 2025 NSW Para-standing Tennis Open.
I played my singles and doubles matches on hardcourt at Sydney Boys High in Moore Park, and the finals were at City Community Tennis in Surry Hills. On Friday I played 1 doubles match and after some long rallies lost 0-6. On Saturday I played 2 singles matches and won both 4-0, which guaranteed me a finals spot on Sunday.
After both games I was lucky enough to get a massage from the physiotherapist which felt really nice after lots of effort and made me feel relaxed!
I played in both the singles and doubles finals on Sunday. Sadly I lost both games, losing 0-4 in the singles and 2-6 in the Doubles finals.
However, I was really proud of myself because I ended up ranking 2nd overall in the Junior competition. I was a bit disappointed when I lost but I know I played well. Next time I know I need to take more charge and be more aggressive in my shots. Through this tournament I felt that my serve improved, and I was a lot more confident in how I played.
I enjoyed playing in Sydney for the first time and enjoyed playing against my opponents as we are at a similar skill level. Everyone was very nice, and I enjoyed the community experience. I enjoyed the competition and all the junior singles; it was fun and while the competition was hard and challenging, the games were close. I was excited and proud of myself for making the finals, and I look forward to my next tournament and the experiences, challenges, and fun ahead.
