Pre-Primary Lorikeets and Possums
We have had an amazing and fun start to Pre- Primary. We have settled in so well and our teachers are very proud of our hard work. We have been very busy learning, making new friendships and playing!
Religious Education
In Religious Education we have been learning that God’s special family is called the Church. We know that we make the sign of the cross to begin and finish prayers. We are starting to learn about the Easter story and why this is such an important time for members of the Catholic Church.
English
In English we have been busy revising letter sounds and we are even starting to build and read CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words. We have learnt a story in Talk for Writing called ‘Little Charlie’ and we know the actions, which helps us to orally retell the story. We have been practising our letter formations and pre-writing patterns.
Mathematics
In Mathematics this term we have been revising many of the concepts we have learnt in Kindy. We are becoming number experts through counting, reading, writing, matching ordering and creating collections. We have also started using ten-frames and dice dot patterns to see if we can recognise amounts without needing to count them.
HASS / Inquiry
Our inquiry focus this term is on ‘Families’. We have been talking about our families, who is in them and the things we do together. We’ve looked at our family photos and talked about the similarities and differences between our families. We have explored and discussed how we spend time with our families and the things we do together. We are now learning about how our families say ‘hello’ in different languages. So far we have learnt to say hello in Vietnamese, Chinese and Filipino.
Year 3 Magpies and Numbats
The first half of Term One has been a wonderful and productive time for the Year Threes as they settle confidently into new routines, expectations, and the growing independence that comes with being upper primary role models.
Students have been practising active listening, working respectfully with peers, and taking responsibility for their learning. In Religion, we have been exploring the Sacrament of Reconciliation and deepening our understanding of what it means to make good choices, say sorry, and repair relationships with others and with God.
In Literacy, students have been strengthening their Narrative and Persuasive writing skills, sharing ideas during class discussions, and focusing on clear handwriting and presentation in their books. We are also continuing to build confidence in reading and responding to texts.
In Mathematics, we have been learning about the properties of numbers, including identifying and explaining even and odd numbers, and revising place value. Students have enjoyed hands on activities, partner tasks, and games that help them apply their number knowledge in meaningful ways. Students enjoyed some pancakes during our Fractions lesson on Shrove Tuesday.
We are looking forward to a fantastic term ahead as we continue building strong learning habits, deepening our understanding across all subjects, and celebrating the wonderful effort Year 3 students are showing each day.
