Lent

Lent is one of the most meaningful seasons in our  Church. It is a sacred time of sacrifice, and preparation. For forty days, the Church invites us to slow down, look inward, and return to God with renewed hearts. This forty‑day journey is similar to Jesus’ own forty days in the desert.

Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the desert. There, He fasted, prayed, and faced temptation. The desert became a place where he communicated with his father.

Our Church sees this moment as the foundation of Lent. Just as Jesus entered the desert to prepare for His mission, we use Lent to prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter.

As Catholics, we believed that Lent is focuses on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

  • Prayer draws us closer to God and strengthens our relationship with Him.

  • Fasting helps us detach from comforts and grow in self‑discipline.

  • Almsgiving turns our hearts outward toward those in need, reflecting Christ’s love.

Project Compassion 2026

This year’s theme, Unite Against Poverty, highlights the power of working together to bring hope to those who need it most. In 2026, Caritas is sharing four powerful stories from around the world, showing how our support helps transform lives. We will be learning about these inspiring stories of hope in class over the next two weeks.

Monoranjon – Bangladesh

Monoranjon lives in a village in Bangladesh close to the sea, where floods and storms often damage his crops and his home. With support from Project Compassion, he learnt climate-resilient farming techniques and new ways to diversify his income, helping his family survive and build a safer, more sustainable future.
