In Reading, students have been working hard on becoming more independent readers during our Reader’s Workshop. We have been learning and practising our reading routines, including choosing “just right” books, reading quietly to ourselves, building stamina, and using strategies to help us when we get stuck on a word. It has been wonderful to see students taking responsibility for their reading and growing in confidence each week!
In Phonics, we have been focusing on digraphs and blends. Students have been learning that digraphs are two letters that make one sound (like sh, ch, th and -ck), while blends are two or more consonants that blend together but we can still hear each sound (like bl, pr, tr and gr). We have been practising reading and writing words with these patterns to strengthen our decoding skills.
