Terrific 2

Year Two Newsletter.

Term One. Week Eight.

As we head towards the end of Term One, the year twos continue to be very busy. Our students have settled well into classroom routines, and our attendance rate has been excellent. We have implemented a house point system for every student who arrives on time each morning. This is a whole school focus, and many of our students have received awards for their attendance and punctuality. Well done Year Twos!

Literacy.

Every morning starts with our phonics and handwriting lesson. The year twos have shown great improvement with their handwriting. They are really trying very hard to use capital letters, full stops and write on the solid line.

Below is our spelling focus for this week and the following two weeks:

8ck vs k ruleback vs bake, sock vs soak
9dge vs ge rulebadge, edge, bridge vs page, stage, huge
10tch vs ch rulematch, fetch, pitch vs munch, coach, peach

The book that we have been reading is The Whale and the Snail. This is a beautiful story. We have been focusing on narrative writing and the components required to write a story. How do we write an interesting title? What adjectives shall we use to describe a person, place or thing? Where is the setting for the story? Who are the characters?

The students will be writing their own narratives next week, and we look forward to reading them.

Maths.

We have been learning about time and data collection. The student have enjoyed collecting data in their classrooms.

We have also been learning how to read the time on an analogue clock. We looked at the hands on the clock and discussed what each hand represented. We also talked about half past and quarter past and quarter to the hour. We played time games on the oval. What’s the time Mr Wolf was fun for everyone!
