Fabulous Foundation
Term 1 Week 8 - 20th March 2026
It has been wonderful to see the continued growth and progress across the cohort. Students are settling well into classroom routines and demonstrating increasing confidence and independence in their learning. Each day is full and purposeful, with students actively engaging in literacy, numeracy and inquiry activities.
We are incredibly proud of the effort being shown by all students. They are consistently trying their best, demonstrating resilience when tasks are challenging, and showing a strong work ethic. It is pleasing to see their confidence building as they take on new learning experiences.
Dates to be aware of:
- Tuesday 24th March - Whole school cross-country event from 2.00pm @ Le Page Park.
- Monday 23rd - Friday 27th March - Book Fair @ Le Page school library.

What we are learning!
Maths:
We have finalised our unit of maths on Time Duration and the sequencing of Daily Events. It was pleasing to see students build their confidence and understanding of the concepts in this area. We have since commenced work on Counting and Place Value. This unit includes developing an understanding of counting collections, showing ‘more’ and ‘less’ and using the language in context. Students have started really well!
Literacy:
Our literacy sessions run from 9.10am right through until 11.30am. We appreciate families ensuring students arrive promptly each morning so that all literacy learning can begin on time. A settled and punctual start to the day allows students to fully participate in our literacy block and maximises valuable teaching and learning time.
We continue to focus on all single letter sounds. It is wonderful to hear their confidence grow as they learn these letter sounds. In phonics we have been concentrating on reading and writing 2- and 3-letter words with an emphasis on sounding them out, blending them together and then saying the word.
Preps have been working hard blending CVC words and writing them out on their whiteboards.
We have sent home sound cards to all students and a (Oscar Nominated) video is now up on Compass - starring Mr Downs & Ms Diggins to show you how we teach these sounds to the Preps.
Colourful Semantics has been so much fun and is still popular in class. We have continued learning more about Who, What, Doing and Where this week. Preps have thoroughly enjoyed small group discussions and sentence building activities based on various pictures. This is a wonderful way to support their sentence structures and builds comprehension, confidence and understanding of texts.
