Junior School
Mr Simon Fairall - Deputy Principal, Junior School
As we move through the early weeks of Term 4, there is a real sense of purpose and excitement across the Junior School. Students have settled well into their learning, classrooms are full of engagement, and there are many exciting opportunities ahead in the coming weeks.
A key focus in our conversations with students this term has been the importance of being upstanders rather than bystanders. We encourage our students to demonstrate courage, kindness, and responsibility by speaking up, seeking help, and supporting others when they see someone who may be struggling or being treated unfairly. Our commitment to fostering a safe and caring community relies on every member of our school playing an active role in looking out for one another. Small acts of kindness and courage can make a significant difference in helping every student feel valued, respected, and included.
Behind the scenes, our teachers have been working tirelessly to prepare for the end of the school year and for Step Up Day on Friday 27 November. Significant time is being invested in planning learning programs, class transitions, and ensuring students are well supported as they move into their next year level. This careful preparation helps create a positive and successful start for students in 2027 and reflects the dedication of our staff to providing the very best educational experience for every child.
Our swimming programs at Gould Academy have continued to be a highlight for many students. Kindergarten and Year 1 students have participated enthusiastically, developing confidence, water safety awareness, and swimming skills in a supportive environment. Today, Friday 23 October, we welcomed our Year 2 students to the program as their lessons commenced. We are grateful to the staff and instructors who have helped make these valuable learning experiences both enjoyable and successful.
Next week, our Kindergarten students are excitedly preparing for their excursion to Wagga Wagga Zoo and Aviary. This learning experience will provide valuable opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences while exploring a wide variety of animals and their habitats. We know our youngest students will enjoy a memorable day of discovery and adventure.
Looking ahead, our Year 5 students are eagerly anticipating their camp to Melbourne and Sovereign Hill, departing on Monday 2 November and returning on Wednesday 4 November. Camps such as these provide exceptional opportunities for students to develop independence, resilience, teamwork, and responsibility while engaging with Australia's rich history and cultural experiences. We wish them safe travels and a rewarding experience for all students and staff involved.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to help our students learn, grow, and flourish throughout the remainder of Term 4. We look forward to sharing more Junior School highlights with you in the weeks ahead.
This term also marks the conclusion of a significant two-year professional learning journey with Dr Nathaniel Swain, a world-renowned leader in literacy instruction and evidence-informed teaching practice.
Throughout this partnership, our staff have engaged deeply with contemporary research and practical classroom approaches that have strengthened literacy teaching across the Junior School. The impact of this work is becoming increasingly evident, not only in our classrooms but also in the recognition of our teaching team more broadly. Trinity staff are now being invited to present at educational events, contribute to professional learning opportunities, and appear on educational podcasts, highlighting the strength, expertise, and quality of teaching and learning across our school.
While this formal phase of the partnership is concluding, we are hopeful of continuing our relationship with Nathaniel in 2027 as we continue our commitment to excellence in literacy instruction. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Nathaniel over the past two years, and for the challenge, encouragement, and professional growth this partnership has provided our staff.
Last term, Trinity Year 2 student Ollie and his Pop set off on an incredible adventure, taking part in the 2026 Lunchbox Rally to raise funds for cancer research.
Their efforts paid off, with The Good Ship Ollie Pop named the highest fundraising team in the rally, raising an incredible $39,227!
The Trinity community played a special part in their journey. From the beautiful hearts to Ollie’s special class send-off and our crazy coloured sock day, the support shown went far beyond fundraising. It helped Ollie feel encouraged, celebrated and surrounded by a community cheering him on every kilometre of the way.
The rally covered an incredible 1,700 kilometres, with the Good Ship Ollie Pop making the journey proudly perched on top of the Mazda. With plenty of fun and laughter along the way, the adventure was a memorable one – and thankfully, only one tyre was needed for the journey!
A big thanks to everyone who helped make this achievement possible. The kindness, generosity and encouragement shown by our community meant so much to Ollie and his Pop, making the experience about far more than the fundraising total.
And it seems this is only the beginning! Captain Ollie has already declared, “Let’s do it all again in 2027!” Next year, the Lunchbox Rally will depart from Toowoomba, Queensland. We look forward to following the next chapter of the Good Ship Ollie Pop’s adventures!

We are excited to begin another term of Creative Pursuits, with a fantastic range of activities on offer for our Years 3–6 students. This term, students will continue to explore new interests, develop skills and make friends from different year groups.
With the warmer weather approaching, we remind families that students should have a hat each day but particularly when participating in outdoor and offsite activities on Creative Pursuits days.
We look forward to a fun and engaging Term 4!
STEM
Students were challenged to design and build a house that could withstand strong winds during Creative Pursuits. Working in teams, they used a variety of materials and construction techniques, testing different ideas to improve the strength and stability of their designs.
Students demonstrated problem-solving and resilience as they made changes to their structures. Reflecting on how engineers design buildings that can withstand challenging weather conditions.

Fishing
Our fishing students had a special little visitor this week!
A gorgeous echidna popped by to check out the fishing action.
It’s great to see our students getting outdoors, enjoying new experiences and making the most of opportunities like these!

Junior School Christmas Hamper Donations
This year once again, the Junior School would like to assist those who are in need in our community. We are asking for donations of goods that can be placed in Christmas Hampers which are then given out by our Anglican Parishes via their food banks, to people that will most benefit.
The types of Christmas fare for hampers are those items people might eat themselves for Christmas celebrations; things like mince tarts, puddings and savoury nibbles as all these kinds of things are ideal and move out of the food banks quickly. The donation of food needs to be fresh – not past the use by date, and it cannot be food that requires refrigeration.
The aim is to donate to Christmas Hampers specifically, although, other food you would term as ‘normal’ food donations; pasta, tinned goods, those sorts of things are absolutely needed and very appreciated. If you find that you would like to donate, but can’t donate specific Christmas fare, then ‘normal’ food is also very welcome.
You may send your donations into your child’s classroom where classes will have a box designated for collection. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via michelle.campbell@trinityac.nsw.edu.au
We are looking forward to helping share some Christmas cheer to those who may be finding life financially difficult during these times.
We are delighted to be partnering with Boas Language Academy to offer free after-school English classes for students, parents and carers.
