Welcome back to school for Term 2!

We warmly welcome all families back for Term 2 and hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing break. We are looking forward to a fun-filled term with plenty of engaging learning experiences for our students. There are some exciting events coming up, including Mother’s Day celebrations, Education Week, and the National Simultaneous Storytime where we will have a visit from a Hastings Librarian. We can’t wait to share another wonderful term of learning and connection with our school community.

Literacy Focus: Nursery Rhymes

In the classroom, we have been exploring nursery rhymes and developing our understanding of rhyming words. Students have enjoyed engaging with a variety of familiar and favourite nursery rhymes, building their confidence in recognising and creating rhymes. As part of this learning, we worked with our buddies to complete a fun “Hickory Dickory Dock” craft activity, which was a wonderful opportunity for collaboration.

Mathematics: Patterns and counting

In recent Mathematics lessons, students have been exploring patterns. They have enjoyed creating, copying and extending their own patterns using a variety of shapes and colours. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and understanding develop as they recognise and build repeating patterns. In the coming weeks we will focus on counting, place value, measurement, time and collecting data.

World Earth Day - Wednesday 22nd April

Our junior students enjoyed learning about Earth Day, exploring ways we can care for and protect our planet. They shared thoughtful ideas about looking after the environment and why it is important to take care of the world around us. As part of the learning, students completed a craft activity where they described their favourite place, plant and animal, and expressed how they feel about planet Earth. It was wonderful to hear their views and growing awareness of caring for our environment.

Health

In Health lessons, students will learn about ways to keep themselves safe by identifying protective behaviours and understanding when and how to seek help. They will also explore different types of health information and how it can be used in their everyday lives. This week students discussed the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and illustrated a healthy lunchbox including items from all 5 food groups.

Science

In our Science lessons we are focusing on Physical Science. This term, students will explore light, sound and heat energy, and how these are produced and experienced through our senses. They will investigate how their senses help them understand and interact with the world through hands-on activities and collaborative investigations

Developmental Play

Our Foundation students have continued to enjoy our weekly rotations in our Developmental Play area. Activities have included the LEGO train set, felt boards, drawing, games and puzzles, playdough and iPad learning apps. Students have followed instructions to create a range of LEGO builds, explored the Teach Your Monster to Read app, and used their creativity skills to design interesting felt board designs. They have also completed drawings and puzzles to support their learning. Well done, Preps/1s!
