Foundation

This week in Dance, students explored fundamental movement skills through our fun “Zoo” theme.

Students used their imagination to become different animals, creating shapes with their bodies and practising travelling movements like jumping, crawling and slithering. We finished by sharing our favourite movements and reflecting on the animals we explored.

Year 1

Students created sharp, controlled robot dances, focusing on energy and isolating different body zones (head, arms, torso and legs) to build short, repeated movement sequences.

Year 2

Worked collaboratively in “Sculptor and Clay,” where partners gave clear verbal instructions to shape and guide each other into poses. They combined locomotor and non-locomotor movements while practising safe use of space and respectful teamwork.

Year 3

Explored graffiti-inspired dance, using mirroring and choreographic skills to create synchronised partner routines. Students experimented with different movement styles to represent “graffiti” and worked closely to stay in time together.

Year 4

Brought their drama skills to life by improvising alternate endings to The Twits. Students focused on staying in character while using voice, facial expressions and movement to communicate their ideas in a collaborative performance.

Year 5

Students developed teamwork and non-verbal communication through the “Set Right Up” challenge, using movement only to organise themselves into shapes and solve problems creatively as a group.

Year 6

Explored movement through a fun “Remote Control” activity, responding to imaginative commands while demonstrating creativity, control and safe movement in space.
