Our Foundation students have been exploring creativity and imagination through design. They were introduced to the idea that designers create spaces for people to enjoy and used this understanding to design their own playgrounds. Students carefully considered what makes a playground both fun and safe, including features such as slides, swings and climbing equipment.

Throughout the process, students practised drawing, labelling and explaining their ideas to others. This helped build early communication skills, as well as confidence in sharing their thinking. It was fantastic to see students begin to understand that their ideas have value and can be communicated clearly to others.

Year 1

Year 1 students have been developing their foundational laptop skills, an important step in becoming confident digital learners. Students have been learning how to log on independently, navigate basic programs and use devices safely and respectfully.

There has been a strong focus on building good habits, such as caring for equipment, following instructions and using technology responsibly. These skills are essential as students begin to integrate digital tools more regularly into their learning across all subjects.

Year 2

Year 2 students have continued building their understanding of the design process by exploring how inventions can solve everyday problems. Students identified common challenges around the school, such as keeping belongings organised or improving play spaces and began designing creative solutions.

They have been encouraged to think deeply about how their inventions would work, who they would help and why they are needed. This has supported the development of critical thinking, creativity and the ability to clearly explain ideas through drawings and discussion.

Year 3/4

Students in Years 3 and 4 have been exploring how technology could shape the future of learning. They designed their own future classrooms, incorporating innovative ideas such as virtual reality learning, robot assistants, and interactive learning spaces.

Students were challenged to not only design these spaces but also explain how their features would improve learning. This encouraged deeper thinking about the purpose of technology and how it can be used effectively. It has been great to see students combining creativity with thoughtful reasoning in their designs.

Year 5

Year 5 students have been introduced to the theme for the 2026 ACER Video Game Challenge, with this year’s focus being “Ocean.” Students have begun unpacking what this theme could represent, discussing a range of ideas such as ocean exploration, environmental challenges, underwater ecosystems and imaginative ocean worlds.

As part of this process, students have been encouraged to think creatively about how a theme can be interpreted in different ways. They have started brainstorming and sharing ideas, considering how storytelling, gameplay, and design can connect to the ocean theme.

Students have now begun the early stages of planning their own video game concepts, thinking about characters, settings and the overall purpose of their game. It has been exciting to see the variety of ideas emerging, with students showing great creativity and enthusiasm as they begin their game design journey.

Year 6

Year 6 students have been exploring electrical circuits, developing their understanding of how energy flows through a system. Through practical investigations, students have experimented with creating circuits that use light and sound to communicate messages, including using Morse code.

They have explored how to make and break circuits using switches and investigated how different components work together within a system. This hands-on learning has helped students build a deeper understanding of electrical systems while also encouraging persistence and problem-solving when things didn’t work the first time.

It has been a fantastic fortnight in STEM, with students continuing to demonstrate our school values of being responsible, kind, and resilient learners. I am looking forward to seeing how students continue to build on these skills throughout the term.
