Excellence and Growth Through Community Connection

At Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College, we are committed to fostering excellence and growth by providing meaningful opportunities for our students to connect with the wider community. These experiences are a vital part of our learning culture, allowing students to apply their skills in real-world contexts, build confidence, and develop a strong sense of responsibility and service.

Opportunities such as VET programs, work experience, Structured Workplace Learning, excursions, incursions, and social justice initiatives all play an important role in supporting this vision. They enable our students to move beyond the classroom and engage authentically with the world around them.

A wonderful example of this in action occurred this Thursday and Friday, when our Year 10 VET Sport Coaching students supported athletics carnivals at St Joseph’s Primary School in Wonthaggi and St Laurence O’Toole Primary School in Leongatha. These experiences provided valuable hands-on learning opportunities, allowing students to develop their coaching, communication, and leadership skills while contributing positively to local school communities.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students conducted themselves across these days, and more broadly, the way they represent the College at all times when engaging in the community. Their professionalism, initiative, and respect reflect the values we strive to uphold.

Thank you to our families for your ongoing support in allowing your children to participate in these valuable experiences. We also extend our appreciation to our local schools, community organisations, and businesses who continue to welcome our students and provide these opportunities for connection and growth. Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank our staff for their hard work in planning and implementing these opportunities, ensuring meaningful and authentic learning experiences for our students.
