Watch a great 'Spike move' here!

On 20th February, the Intermediate Volleyball teams set out for what was thought to be a challenging day on the courts. Blackburn High School entered 2 boys teams and 2 girls teams into the Whitehorse Division competition.

What a great day out it was, all 4 teams were victorious in their competitions, with only 1 loss in total for all 4 teams. Students demonstrated amazing skills and teamwork throughout the day. This resulted in both the A teams progressing through the Eastern Metro Regional competition in the final week of term 1.

A special thank you to student coaches, Raahil and Jacob for assisting with the teams.

Good luck at the next round.

Year 7 Boys Baseball

On Tuesday, 19th March BHS Year 7 boys played in a SSV Whitehorse round-robin tournament. Conditions were unpleasant: hot, windy and very dusty on the diamond. BHS defeated both Box Hill HS and Koonung SC by a solitary run in the first 2 fixtures. A special shout out to Christiaan who managed to score the winning run against Koonung when he heroically slid on gravel into home sacrificing the skin on his bare legs which were left severely grazed.

The win set up a grand final against East Doncaster SC. Unfortunately, EDSC were too strong for BHS in all facets of the game (batting, pitching and fielding). Despite the loss the Year 7 boys enjoyed their first time representing the school in interschool sport.

BHS were very fortunate to have the coaching expertise of a former Australian baseball player in Mrs Davidson. All players learnt a great amount about the game and were inspired by her knowledge and passion for the sport. I would like to thank Mrs Davidson, Josh S and Sidney N (Year 10, Sport Coaching students) for coaching. Also, a big thank you to Bonita (mother of Quinn) for her scoring and support on the day.

BHS Intermediate Boys Cricket - SSV Whitehorse Division

On Friday 16th February BHS Intermediate boys played in the SSV Whitehorse Division tournament at Elgar Park. We were blessed on the day with perfect conditions for cricket: fine, sunny and 23 degrees.

  • Round 1: BHS 4/117 (18 overs) were defeated by EDSC 2/120 (18 overs)

Highlights: Fynn 30 retired, Jake 25 not out, Vansh 13, Aarav 17 & 1/23 (4), Hugo 1/22 (3)

  • Round 2: BHS 4/47 (10 overs) were defeated by Box Hill HS 4/55 (10 overs)

Highlights: Coby 13, Xavier 11 retired, Oscar 2/1 (2), Fynn 1/7, Vrishan 1/6 (2)

Both games were thrillers going down to the final over. Unfortunately, BHS went down in both games.  The line-up was changed in the final game to ensure all players in the team had an opportunity to bat or bowl. Despite the loss, the BHS boys enjoyed their day in the sun with their friends playing Australia’s favourite summer sport.

BHS Senior Cricket - SSV Whitehorse Division

On Tuesday 27th February BHS Senior Cricket team played in a round robin limited overs tournament at Elgar Park in the Whitehorse Division.

Round #1 saw an incredible win by BHS over Box Hill HS in an absolute thriller. Chasing 95 off our allocated 13 overs, the game came down to the last ball with BHS needing 1 to draw and 2 to win.

Enter the man for the moment Harvey, who hit the winning runs after a difficult dropped catch at mid-on. The boys (and the coach) were ecstatic. Ned 20, Jackson 28, Harvey 20* and James 19* were the standouts with the bat.

The win meant that the last round game against SEDA was effectively a Grand Final. SEDA batted first and posted a very competitive 112.

In reply BHS made a good effort in their chase but eventually fell 24 runs short. Hard hitting opening batsmen Aiden (32 retired including three 6’s and two 4’s) and James (19*) played very impressively with the bat against a quality attack. Special mention to Ned who captained brilliantly and managed to give all players an opportunity to bat, bowl or field.
