Year 10 Electronics students design assistive devices for daily living for people with Arthritis

Congratulations to our Year 10 Electronics class, led by Mr Chattrath, on an outstanding project supporting people living with arthritis and other conditions that affect daily movement and dexterity.

Taking their learning from initial computer programming concepts through to three-dimensional printing, students designed and produced a range of practical assistive devices. 

These included ergonomic cutlery grips to make eating easier, and pen and pencil holders to support people who find writing or drawing difficult due to reduced hand strength or joint pain.

The project reflects the very best of digital technology, identifying a real-world problem, applying technical skill, and iterating through design and prototyping to reach a genuine solution. For people managing arthritis and similar conditions, small adaptations like these can make a significant difference, restoring independence in tasks many of us take for granted.

Well done to Mr Chattrath and every student involved. This is a wonderful example of how engineering, empathy and innovation come together at Nossal High School.
