Debating

Nossal High School’s Participation in the Debaters’ Association of Victoria competition of 2026
At Nossal High School we take great pride in our English skills, eloquence and critical thinking. That’s why I have been so proud to represent Nossal High School in the Debaters’ Association of Victoria competition of 2026.
This year, after a lengthy selection process including signups, tryouts and a debate training day, Nossal entered 16 competitive teams into the competition, with four teams from each year level and nine people in each team.2026 was another extremely competitive season with 3 teams advancing to the power-paired Berwick regional final. D Grade (Year 9) Team 3, of which I was fortunate to be a part, progressed to the State Series Finals. After a season of preparation, practise and plenty of mock debates and late-night Teams discussions, our team is now looking forward to making our State Series Finals debut for Nossal on 20 August.
Beyond the competitive spirit, the camaraderie between Nossal teams as we all worked towards the same goal was one of the most rewarding aspects of the experience. Supporting each other during debates, seeking feedback from our Year 12 mentors, and sharing tips and arguments between teams was what made this season truly memorable.
As we farewell our brilliant Year 12 debaters and welcome a new, promising generation of debaters, we hope to build on this year’s accomplishments and make 2027’s season even more exciting.

Ainger Peck Public Speaking Award
Earlier this year, our students attended the Ainger Peck Public Speaking Award and have just recently received their certificates.
The Ainger Peck Public Speaking Award promotes and enhances communication and helps develop the art of public speaking. This event gives each student speaker an opportunity to develop their speaking skills by choosing a topic of their choice and presenting it before an unfamiliar audience.
Congratulations to Dana Li, John Attia and the finalist, winning her heat, Elsie Kratky.
