Terrific Times in Year Two

In Religion, we have been exploring stories from the Old Testament including the story of Noah’s Ark. We are discussing the messages these stories teach us about God, faith, trust and caring for others. You can continue this learning at home by reading stories from the Old Testament in a children’s Bible and chatting with your child about the characters, events and messages in each story.

In Mathematics, we have been learning about fractions, focusing on halves (1/2), quarters (1/4) and eighths (1/8). We have explored the meaning of the numerator and denominator and how different fractions relate to one another. To bring our learning to life, we worked in table groups to create a fraction “quilt”, showing how different fractions can fit together to make a whole. 

You can support this learning at home by exploring fractions in everyday situations, such as sharing food, cutting fruit into equal pieces or discussing how many quarters make a half or a whole.
