Flying High in Year Five

Throughout Term three and four, Year Five have been studying the novel, Wonder. Wonder is the story of a boy named August Pullman, a ten-year-old boy born with severe facial differences. The book explores August first attending school in Year Five after being homeschooled before this.

As Auggie adjusts to friendships, challenges and unkind behaviour, he learns the importance of kindness and acceptance. The story is told from several characters’ perspectives, showing how Auggie’s life and experiences affect the people around him. Wonder teaches us that true beauty comes from who we are on the inside. A person’s kindness, courage, friendship and the way they treat others are more important than their appearance.

Through Auggie’s experiences, the novel encourages us to look beyond what we see on the outside and appreciate the qualities that make each person special.
