In an age where student engagement and motivation are so important, sometimes it’s the small, hands-on activities that can make a big difference.

The Year 7 Humanities team brought the study of Ancient Egypt to life by having students mummify an apple, allowing them to see and experience the process of preservation firsthand.

This simple, interactive activity provided students with an opportunity to move beyond the textbook and engage with the content in a practical and memorable way.

Our Year 7 Humanities students have been getting hands-on with their learning about Ancient Egypt! As part of their study of the Egyptian process of mummification, students had the opportunity to mummify themselves as they stepped into the role of an ancient Egyptian.

The activity provided a fun and memorable way for students to engage with the process while reinforcing their understanding of why and how mummification was carried out in Ancient Egypt. Students worked creatively with the limited materials provided, using just two toilet rolls per each group to minimise waste while still bringing the learning to life.

It was fantastic to see students so enthusiastically engaged in their Humanities learning and developing their understanding through a fun, practical experience.
