Parent Carer Survey

The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. 

To access the survey, parents and carers must log into Compass and access the information provided to them via the news post I provided last week. This will have the link and the parent / carer code to access the survey.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / carers who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.

From the last 2 completed parent / carer surveys, the results informed the college that we need to get better with our communication with parents. This is something that we continue to focus on as part of the feedback process. Please speak to the general office on 9463 7300 if you would like more information.

School Review 

Lalor Secondary Colleges school review has ended with significant contributions from parents. Carers, students and staff. The outcome of the review will be finalised in the coming weeks and then shared with the school community. The overwhelming feedback has been positive with the hard work and focus of school staff translating into improved students’ outcomes and strong relationships. I look forward to working with the school community to develop the next 4-year strategic plan in the coming weeks.

ADDAMS Family Production

The highlight of last week was attending the ADDAMS Family school production. The cast was amazing and the show was a magnificent production that entertained everyone in the audience. It might have been the best production I've seen from Lalor Secondary College in recent times; however, I seem to be saying that every year we have one which means they are always great. A huge thank you to all of the staff involved for their hours of work behind the scenes over the months of 2026 that have facilitated this wonderful celebration of our students. Olivia Cirillo gets a huge shout out as the director of this huge achievement. 

Local Parliamentary Convention

The highlight of the week before the production was being able to open and attend the Local Schools Convention. Lalor Secondary College has been hosting the Local Schools Convention for the past 21 years and it continues to grow in quality and number. We had students and staff from the following schools attend this year with close to 200 people attending.

•          Copperfield College

•          Lalor North Secondary College

•          Mill Park Secondary College

•          Mernda Central College

•          Rosehill Secondary College

•          Thomastown Secondary College

•          and, of course, Lalor Secondary College.

The topic that was presented this year was “Australia’s Immigration Numbers: Benefit or Burden?” 

We had the following guest presenters provide a range of discussions points before the students went through a debating process that informed their decision making.

• The Hon. Andrew Giles MP, Federal Member for Scullin;

• Associate Professor Andrew J. Clarke from the University of Melbourne;

• Jana Favero, Deputy CEO of the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre;

• Jonathan O’Brien, Lead Organiser of YIMBY Melbourne.

The overwhelming majority felt that the Immigration Numbers of Australia were a benefit to our community.

I’d like to thank the Humanities team for their efforts in facilitating such a valuable experience for students across the educational community with a particular thanks to Renee Cerra for her efforts in coordinating the event.

Wear it Purple Day

Wear It Purple Day is an important opportunity for our school community to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion and show our support for LGBTQIA+ young people. On Wear It Purple Day, we encourage students and staff to wear a touch of purple and join us in creating a school environment where everyone feels safe, respected, valued and able to be themselves. The day reminds us that small acts of kindness, acceptance and understanding can make a significant difference to someone’s experience at school.

Our school is committed to ensuring that every student feels a strong sense of belonging. We recognise and celebrate the diversity within our community and believe that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their gender identity, sexuality or background.

We encourage all students to participate in Wear It Purple Day by wearing a touch of purple, supporting their friends and helping to promote a culture of inclusion, acceptance and belonging. Together, we can demonstrate that our school is a place where everyone belongs, everyone is respected and everyone can be themselves.
