Term 3 Interschool Sport

It has been a fantastic period for sport at Warrandyte High School, with our students finishing Term 2 on a high and carrying that momentum straight into Term 3. Across AFL, soccer, netball and basketball, our students have continued to demonstrate skill, teamwork, resilience and, most importantly, pride in representing our school.

Finishing Term 2 on a High

The final weeks of Term 2 provided a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their sporting talents, with the Junior Girls AFL EMR Regional Finals and Year 7 Interschool Sport Day providing a fitting end to a very strong sporting semester.

Our Junior Girls AFL team produced an outstanding achievement, progressing to the EMR Regional Finals after winning the Division Championship. Our 18 Year 7 and 8 girls embraced the challenge of competing against much larger schools, including schools with established sporting academy programs.

Across three games, the girls continued to improve with every half, growing in confidence and demonstrating incredible determination, resilience and team spirit. While they didn't come away with victories in every game, they remained highly competitive and never stopped fighting for each other. There were plenty of highlights throughout the day, including outstanding chase-down tackles, relentless defensive pressure and courageous efforts around the contest. With many of the girls playing only their first or second competitive AFL game, their performance and development throughout the day were particularly impressive. Under the guidance and leadership of students Ella Guymer, Emily Guymer, Emily Lynch and Elisha McEvoy, the team continued to develop their skills and belief while providing incredible support for one another. Most importantly, the girls proudly displayed our school values throughout the tournament. A fantastic achievement and a wonderful way to finish the semester.

Our Year 7 Interschool Sport Day was another highlight of the final weeks of Term 2, with students representing WHS in Soccer and Netball. On the soccer field, the students gave their absolute best in every match, finishing the day with one win, one draw and two losses. Ahoora (year 11) stepped into a leadership role and coached the team throughout the day, while Elson produced some magnificent saves in goals. The midfield worked tirelessly between defence and attack, while the forwards created numerous scoring opportunities. Most pleasing was the improvement and confidence shown as the day progressed, with the team never giving up and consistently supporting one another.

There was plenty of success on the netball courts, with our A Team producing an outstanding performance throughout the day. Playing without a bench, the team won all of their pool matches before progressing to the Grand Final. With the scores level at half-time, fatigue began to take its toll, but the girls continued to fight hard and narrowly finished runners-up by just three points, an incredible achievement. Our B Team also enjoyed a fantastic day, building confidence, teamwork and skills with every game. Their hard work was rewarded with several well-deserved wins and some excellent passages of play.

The Year 7 day also provided an important learning opportunity for our Unit 1 & 2 VET Sport, Aquatics and Recreation students, who completed practical assessment tasks for their officiating unit. Students observed experienced officials before taking charge of games themselves, demonstrating professionalism, fairness and outstanding leadership throughout the day.

Together, these events provided a fantastic conclusion to a strong Semester 1 of school sport, with students competing, supporting one another, developing their skills and proudly representing Warrandyte High School.

Term 3 Starts with a Bang!

There was no slowing down once Term 3 began, with our students immediately building on the success of term 2 through the Senior Boys EMR Netball Regional Finals and Intermediate Basketball.

Our Senior Boys Netball team represented Warrandyte at the EMR Regional Finals and produced an outstanding effort. The boys played with determination, resilience and exceptional teamwork throughout the day, with every player making an important contribution. Billy was outstanding in the goal circle, scoring some fabulous goals and making his presence felt. Mason was strong at both ends of the court, shutting down key plays while also converting important goals. Toby made an impact in attack and defence, while Tom's agility and ability to read the play created numerous turnovers. Ryan worked tirelessly at Wing Attack, creating strong goal assists and contributing valuable turnovers, while Rhys was excellent in defence, reading the play and earning crucial intercepts. Wylie and Fletcher worked hard in Wing Defence, applying constant pressure, slowing the opposition and creating opportunities for the team.

The boys should be incredibly proud of the way they represented our school, showing that the strong team culture developed throughout Semester 1 is continuing into Semester 2.

Our Intermediate Basketball teams then continued the momentum, with two boys' teams and one girls' team taking to the court for a fantastic day of competition. From the opening whistle to the final siren, there was plenty of energy, teamwork and exciting basketball on display. All three teams gave their absolute best, battled hard and came away with multiple wins throughout the day. However, the highlights extended well beyond the results. Students stepped up to assist with scoring and coaching, while teammates and friends provided plenty of encouragement from the sidelines.

It was a great example of what school sport is all about — competing, supporting, encouraging and having fun together.

Setting the Tone for the Rest of 2026

From the final competitions of Term 2 through to the opening weeks of Term 3, our students have shown that the sporting momentum at Warrandyte High School is continuing to build. Whether competing on the field or court, coaching, officiating a game, helping with scoring or cheering from the sidelines, students have consistently demonstrated our values of Respect, Integrity, Strength and Excellence.
