Dear Warrandyte High School Community

It has been a positive start to Term 3, with students returning from the Term 2 break settled, engaged and ready to learn. Across the school, the strong sense of purpose remains as we continue to build on the excellent work of Semester 1 and our ongoing focus on strengthening student learning and engagement. It is always pleasing to see the many daily examples of our students demonstrating our RISE values, contributing positively to the Warrandyte High School culture. 

One of the highlights already this term has been the release of our 2026 Attitudes to School Survey and NAPLAN results. Both sets of data provide strong evidence that the work being undertaken across our school to improve teaching and learning, student wellbeing and school culture is having a positive impact. We are delighted that our Attitudes to School Survey results are the strongest in the school's history, reflecting the positive learning environment we continue to build together. Similarly, our Year 7 and Year 9 NAPLAN results demonstrate strong achievement across literacy and numeracy, reinforcing our commitment to high-quality teaching and whole-school improvement.

Strong or Exceeding (top 2) proficiency bands was exceptionally high:

• Year 7 Reading: 87%
• Year 7 Writing: 81%
• Year 7 Numeracy: 76%
• Year 9 Reading: 76%
• Year 9 Numeracy: 76%

Looking ahead to 2027, planning has already commenced for our next school production. Following the success of Beauty and the Beast Jr last term, I am delighted to announce that our 2027 production will be Peter Pan Jr. Performances will be held from Friday 4 June to Sunday 6 June 2027, and we look forward to another outstanding showcase of student talent and teamwork.

Another exciting development for our school community is the opening of our refreshed canteen, seeing us partner with Now and Not Yet. Operations will commence from Tuesday 18 August. The canteen will initially operate Monday to Thursday during recess and lunch before progressively expanding to five days per week. We are excited to welcome them and the opportunities their service will provide for our students and wider school community.

Throughout this term we are also delighted to be welcoming local primary school students to Warrandyte High School through our annual Step into Secondary program. Year 4 and 5 students from five neighbouring primary schools will spend a morning experiencing a range of interactive activities and a chance to meet our staff and students. Programs such as these strengthen our partnerships with local schools and provide younger students with an exciting introduction to what secondary school life looks like at WHS.

As the term progresses, we also look forward to the official unveiling of our Memorial Garden, to occur after school on Wednesday 2 September. The space will provide a lasting place of reflection and remembrance within our school grounds. 

Finally, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for the positive contribution you make to our school community each day. I look forward to sharing more of our achievements as the term progresses.
