Well done and congratulations to our amazing Year 10 cohort on completing their Work Experience. This was a valuable learning experience for students. the feedback from employers, staff visitors/callers and the students themselves has been nothing but positive. From this experience, some students have gained part-time work, and a few are looking for even more adventurous opportunities. Even if students discovered that the job they tried was not for them, the opportunity was valuable. A big thank you to parents and relatives, who helped students find work, it is very much appreciated. The program could not run without this extended support.

Open Days

August is classic Open Day season, although most tertiary organisations offer multiple options to engage with their programs throughout the year. These opportunities include things like taster programs, holiday activities and online sessions. With give-aways, prizes, tours and a chance to talk to students and academics, it's a really useful way to explore a variety of institutions. I have publicised Open Day dates on Compass, but here is the link:

Year 12 VTAC Applications

For many (but not all) tertiary courses are a pathway students pursue. As a result, Year 12 students are required to create an account with VTAC (the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) and enter their tertiary preferences for 2027. We will be going through this with students in Strive and also hold an upcoming Parent/Student Information session. Students are urged to lodge an application, even if they intend to take a Gap Year in 2027. Any offer can be deferred and either accepted or rejected in 2028. Timely applications will cost $83 and must be lodged by 28th of September. This means you must have set up your account and added at least one course, although you can list up to 8 preferences. You can add, re-order or remove preferences up until the results come out on Decemebr 10th for the first round of applications.

Scholarships and Equity schemes (consideration of disadvantage) are also lodged through VTAC. We will also go through these in the Parent/Student Information session.

Year 12 VM

Year 12 VM students are working on various final assessment tasks as they prepare to finish their studies. In Work Related Skills students are preparing and then presenting Careers Portfolios to invited guests. The Personal Development Skills class is actively involved in preparing a variety of community fund raisers. Keep an eye on Compass for the details of these events. In Literacy, the students are exploring community groups and designing an advocacy campaign.
