🌳 Growing a Greener Future at Epsom Primary

This term, our students rolled up their sleeves and got planting for National Tree Day! 🌱

We were incredibly fortunate to partner with Rotary Sandhurst, who generously supplied hundreds of native and bush tucker plants, stakes and tree guards, as well as giving their time to work alongside our students.

Across our Green STEM sessions, students helped plant trees and native species around our school grounds. It was fantastic to see students getting their hands dirty, working together and learning about the importance of trees for biodiversity, shade, habitat and healthy waterways.

A huge thank you to Rotary Sandhurst for your generosity, hard work and ongoing support of Epsom Primary School. Your contribution has helped us create a greener, healthier school environment that our students — and future generations — will enjoy.

🌱 Rethinking Waste at Epsom Primary

This term, our sustainability focus has been waste - and we’ve discovered that waste is much more than just rubbish!

Across Green Nest and Green STEM, students have been learning about Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, food waste, composting and making responsible choices about the resources we use every day.

Students have discovered that food scraps can become healthy soil, old materials can be given a new life, and the best waste is often the waste we never create!

From the classroom to the compost bin, our students are becoming waste-wise sustainability champions! 🌏💚

🗑️ Learning from the Waste Experts

Our Prep-Year 2 students were lucky enough to have a visit from the City of Greater Bendigo Waste Management Education Team this term. Students participated in engaging, age-appropriate activities that helped them understand where our rubbish goes, how to sort waste correctly and why reducing waste is so important.

The visit was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect what they have been learning at school with the waste systems we use at home and in our community.

🌱 Hope & Action Day: Our Students Take the Lead!

Our Grade 3 and 4 students recently had an exciting opportunity to attend Hope & Action Day, a special event focused on inspiring young people to turn their ideas for a better future into action.

We were incredibly proud to be the only school invited to present at the event! Our students shared the work happening at Epsom Primary through our Green Nest, sustainability programs and student-led environmental projects.

We had nine very passionate Green Magpie presenters: Emily, Blair, Poppy, Sophie, Estelle, Martine, Piper, Scarlett and Zara. Our students spoke confidently about the changes we are making at school and how small actions can create a big impact. They demonstrated that students don't just learn about sustainability - they can be leaders, problem-solvers and changemakers too!

It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their ideas with a wider audience, celebrate the work of our school community and inspire others to take action.
