Reminders
📚 Library & Home Reading – Please remember to pack your child’s library bag and decodable reader. Both grades attend library on Thursday.
💧Drink Bottles - Drink bottles can go into classrooms for students to access regularly.
🚫 Toys at School – To avoid distractions and lost items, we ask that toys stay at home. Including squishies- these cause lots of arguments and mess when they break!
🎩Hats - Please ensure your child has their Epsom School Hat ready for the new term!
Literacy
This term in Literacy, students have developed their reading and writing skills across a range of engaging text types. They explored recount writing, using chronological structure and descriptive language to retell personal experiences. They have learned how to create convincing persuasive texts by supporting opinions with strong reasons and emotive language.
Students also enjoyed crafting imaginative stories, developing characters, settings and creative plot ideas.
Throughout the term, there has also been a strong focus on expanding vocabulary and strengthening sentence-level writing, with students learning to use conjunctions to create more detailed, cohesive and engaging sentences.

Numeracy
This term in Numeracy, students have built their understanding of key mathematical concepts through hands-on learning and real-life applications. They developed confidence reading calendars and analogue clocks, while strengthening their fluency with the 2, 3, 5 and 10 multiplication and division facts.
Students explored length, mass and capacity by measuring and comparing objects using informal units, and investigated additive and repeating patterns by identifying, extending and creating number sequences.
We also learned how to collect, analyse and display data, using tables and graphs to interpret information.
What was your favourite maths activity and why?

Inquiry
Geography
This term in Inquiry, students explored Geography through our Inquisitive learning sequences, investigating the special connection between people and places. A significant focus was on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, where students learned about connection to Country/Place, including the cultural, spiritual and environmental importance of caring for Country.
Technology
This term in Technology, students have continued to build their digital skills and confidence across a range of areas.
They practised touch typing to improve their speed and accuracy, and used Scratch to create simple programs by exploring sequencing, coding and problem-solving.
Students also developed their computer skills by creating and editing work in Google Slides and Google Docs, learning how to format text, insert images and present information clearly. Throughout the term, we reinforced the importance of online safety, helping students make safe, respectful and responsible choices when using digital technologies.

Health/ Respectful Relationships
This term in Health and Respectful Relationships, students explored identity, gender norms and stereotypes, and the importance of fairness and inclusion. Through games, role plays, real-life scenarios and episodes of Bluey, students discussed how personal preferences help make us unique, why labels do not define people, and how stereotypes can influence the way we think and act. We also examined fair play and gender fairness, encouraging students to challenge assumptions, show empathy and treat everyone with respect both in the classroom and beyond.

What was your favourite event this term?
"Mine was the Book Week parade because I got to help out and be up the front. I also liked it because I came first with my Spongebob dress up." - Koa

Grade 2 Sleepover at the Discovery Centre
Grade 2 students finished the term with the most exciting event- The Grade 2 Sleepover. This is beginning of their camp experience at primary school where they spend a night sleeping away from home. Camp programs are a great way for students to develop their personal independence and resilience skills. Its all about trying new things and experiences as well as developing their social connections!
The Grade 2s explored the different exhibits at the Discovery Centre- including trying the vertical slide. They ate a delicious pizza dinner, followed by a movie and then had a good sleep, ready for fun Lego activities the next day!
