Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families,

Over the past two weeks, students across the school have continued to build their confidence in drama, music and performance. It has been wonderful to see students rehearsing, performing and learning new instrumental skills while working together creatively.

Prep students spent Week 7 practising how to act out a story through movement, facial expression and voice. They explored how to bring characters to life and also practised being great audience members by watching respectfully, listening carefully and encouraging their classmates during performances. In Week 8, Prep students were introduced to music. They enjoyed singing the Flower Song, exploring body percussion such as clapping and tapping, and experimenting with unpitched percussion instruments to keep the beat and follow simple rhythms.

Grade 1 students performed their class song in Week 7, applying the musical elements they have been learning throughout the term. They focused on singing clearly, following the pitch of the song, staying in time with the music and performing confidently. In Week 8, students were introduced to the djembe drum, learning how to play the bass and tone sounds. They also practised following rhythm patterns using a mixture of unpitched percussion instruments, developing their listening and ensemble skills.

Grade 2 students also performed their class song in Week 7, demonstrating their understanding of pitch, tempo, beat, rhythm and dynamics. In Week 8, students expanded their percussion skills by learning three sounds on the djembe drum: bass, tone and slap. They then practised following rhythm patterns while playing a variety of unpitched percussion instruments, working on timing and coordination as a group.

Grade 3 students spent Week 7 rehearsing their class song, combining unpitched percussion instruments with singing their chorus to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Students focused on keeping a steady beat and performing their rap verses with clear rhythm. In Week 8, they shared their hard work by performing their song to another class, showing confidence and teamwork in their performance.

Grade 4 students continued developing their class song in Week 7, rehearsing with both unpitched and pitched percussion instruments while singing their chorus to their chosen tune. Students worked on coordinating their instrumental parts and vocals as a group. In Week 8, they proudly performed their song to another class, demonstrating creativity, collaboration and performance skills.

Grade 5 students spent these two weeks revising how to play the A minor (Am), C major (C) and F major (F) chords on the ukulele. They practised their strumming technique while playing their class song, experimenting with different strumming patterns and changes in dynamics to make their performance more expressive.

Grade 6 students continued building their ukulele skills by learning the E minor (Em) chord in Week 7 and the G major (G) chord in Week 8. They have also been refining their strumming technique, practising their class song using different strumming patterns and dynamic changes to improve their musical expression and confidence.

It has been fantastic to see students across all year levels performing, collaborating and exploring new musical skills. We look forward to seeing their creativity and confidence continue to grow in the coming weeks!
