STEM News

Dear fellow scientists,

Prep students are demonstrating what they have learned in STEM this year by completing a post and content test based on their biology unit. Read this book on https://www.getepic.com/app/read/10798

Students in Grade 1 are using what they have learned in class to complete two important activities: a content test, where they demonstrate their understanding of the topics they have studied, and a design project, where they apply their knowledge creatively to plan and begin their group projects. These activities allow students to show their learning through both written assessments and hands-on work, reinforcing key STEM skills such as problem-solving, planning, and creativity. Students in Grade 2 are learning how to create bar graphs to represent data. In our latest activity, they investigated different soundproof materials and recorded their results. Using this data, students are now creating a bar graph, making sure to draw the bars to the correct height and add a Y-axis label. Through this activity, students are practising how to organise information, present it visually, and interpret results — all key skills in STEM learning! This week, Grade 3 students are demonstrating what they have learned by completing an online test. This activity helps students show their understanding while practising focus, independence, and careful listening — important skills for all learning areas. Grade 4 students are completing an online assessment for their materials and their properties unit. Throughout this unit, students have been learning about different materials and exploring their properties, such as strength, flexibility, hardness, and absorbency. The assessment allows students to demonstrate their understanding of how materials are used for different purposes based on their properties. Students in Grade 5 are exploring the Solar System and learning to identify patterns among the planets. Students are focusing on naming the eight planets in the correct order from the Sun, comparing the orbit times of the planets and comparing the temperatures of different planets. Through these activities, students are developing a deeper understanding of how the planets move, how long they take to orbit the Sun, and how their positions influence their temperatures. It’s exciting to see students engaging with the wonders of space and making connections between planetary patterns! Grade 6 students are completing a content test as well as a DAL online assessment based on their learning about matter. Students have been exploring the idea that everything around us is made up of matter. They learned that matter is made up of atoms, which are very small particles, and that matter can exist in three different states: solid, liquid, and gas. These assessments allow students to demonstrate their understanding of these key science concepts. Read this book on Matter Change States: https://www.getepic.com/app/read/47697
