Grade 5 Community News

Hello Year 5 families!!!
Thank you to all the parents and carers this week for the support with NAPLAN.
English
We have now finished our novel, Kensuke’s Kingdom, and are looking forward to watching the movie. In the last weeks of term 1, we will be looking at Deadly Science: The Solar System. This is a child-friendly non-fiction science book that takes young readers on an engaging journey through space, explaining key features of our solar system. It introduces planets, stars, moons, asteroids, comets, and nebulae, showing how each part of the solar system fits together and what makes them unique. Alongside scientific facts and discoveries, the book celebrates the astronomical knowledge of First Nations Australians, recognising that Indigenous people were some of the world’s first astronomers who carefully observed the movements of stars and planets. With accessible language and vivid visuals, the book invites curiosity about space and encourages readers to explore the mysteries that still remain.
Mathematics
In Year 5 Mathematics, we are focusing on multiplication and division strategies, applying our knowledge of factors to solve multi-step problems, worded questions, and real-world scenarios.
We will be working with different methods of solving problems, including using materials, the area model, and the distributive property of multiplication, to help us.
Students will continue building fluency, accuracy, and confidence with larger numbers and written methods.
Reminders
