In a spectacular display of athleticism and school spirit, Monivae has claimed the top honors at the Glenelg Division Athletics competition, securing the Overall Champions title. Our athletes dominated the field, winning both the Boys' and Girls' Aggregate awards in what proved to be a comprehensive victory for our school.
Under clear skies and perfect conditions, our students demonstrated exceptional determination and sportsmanship throughout the day's events. The success was truly a team effort, with many students filling in at the last minute due to some injuries. Congratulations to the following students for winning their age group champion award.
14y Girls | Emily Iredell |
14y Boys | Ollie Aspinall |
15y Girls | Leayla Pohl |
17y Girls | Jessica Mibus |
18-20y Girls | Grace Cleaver |
Athletics captains Hugh Fitzgerald and Grace Cleaver provided inspirational leadership, motivating their peers and leading by example on the track and field.
Thank you to the staff, Mr Leo McMahon, Ms Stacey Adams who worked tirelessly on the long jump event all day. To Mr Clinton Thomas and Mrs Narelle Friochet for the support and organisation of the team on the day. Your expertise is invaluable.
Good luck to those students who will be heading to the GWR Athletics, Ballarat in early Term 4. More information coming in Term 3.
Boys Cricket 1st XI
Boys First XI cricket was hosted by College on March 23. Monivae, captained by Eddie McShane, won the toss and elected to field on a wet, foggy morning. Right from the outset Monivae was on top, and despite some gritty batting from the College top order, the Monivae bowling was excellent. Ned Hintum was brilliant opening the bowling, taking 2 key wickets, while off-spinners Hugo Hedley and Levi Templeton tore through College’s middle order with 4 wickets apiece. Despite some early dropped catches, Monivae’s was fielding was good overall, highlighted by Hugo’s catches in close to finish the College innings on just 90. In reply, opening batsman Ollie Foster got to work, quickly finishing the game with a half-century, guiding Monivae to victory by 7 wickets with more than 15 overs to spare. After a close loss the previous year, it was great to get back on the Shield, and a big congratulations to all those involved. Thanks to Mrs Read who once again scored for the day.
