“Let us see in all the trials that come to us a sign of God’s love and of his mercy”

Fr Jules Chevalier MSC in a letter to Fr Meyer MSC, 1906.

For all that has been…

God’s love and mercy have been alive and well at Monivae this Term.  Our appeal for Project Compassion throughout Lent has been well supported by our community which has been pleasing to see.  Additionally, our wonderful Social Justice and Community Vice Captains, Ava and Issy, have done a fantastic job in co-ordinating two wonderful ice-cream events for students and staff to enjoy Halls Gap ice-cream.

Our Athletics Day fell on Shrove Tuesday, so under the guidance of Mrs Lia Mailes, a group of willing helpers cooked pancakes for hungry athletes, with proceeds being donated to Project Compassion.  Well done and thank you to Mrs Mailes and her team.

We have been blessed to have Fr Bob Irwin MSC with us for a second visit this Term.  Fr Bob has spent time with each Year 7 Pod in their RE classes, unpacking with them the symbols and meaning of the Mass.  We then came together for a Year 7 Mass, with our students leading the various parts of the service.  To celebrate a job well done, students and staff enjoyed a ‘Hava Heart’ ice-cream and some fun activities to round off the term.  Our special thanks to Fr Bob for his inspiring, humorous and loving MSC presence amongst us.

For what is to come…

Next Term, we look forward to our Easter Mass, and our annual celebration of Sacred Heart Day.  We will be planning for Sacred Heart day from the beginning of Term 2, so if any of our students would like to contribute ideas to how our Mass can be extra special this year, please speak with Mr Crane: mcrane@monivae.vic.edu.au

Some closing thoughts…

Lent has been a great opportunity to pause and reflect on the many aspects of what makes each of us a unique human being who is loved by God. For some, new connections have been formed as our new Pod structure has taken us out of our comfort zones and introduced us to new people.  For others, it has been a time of finding resilience in the midst of challenges.

During the holidays, we will celebrate the events of Holy Week and Easter.  We will recall Jesus’s last meal with his friends when he took bread and wine and commanded us to do likewise.  In union with Christians throughout the world, we will recall Jesus’s arrest, mistrial, and his painful death on the cross.  On Easter Day, we will celebrate anew the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, fulfilling God’s promise to all of humankind, that death would not be the end of the story for any of us.  When we return to school for Term 2, we too will celebrate an Easter Mass together. We will proclaim that “Christ is Risen,” and light our Paschal candle which reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world, a light that dispels all darkness.

We wish you a happy and safe break, and a very joyful Easter. May we each be a light to those who find themselves in darkness.
