Year 3 - Year 6 Updates
Year 3
What a busy couple of weeks we have had. We loved Book Week and seeing everyone dressed as their favourite book characters. In Mathematics, we have been solving practical problems, working with different amounts of money. We were incredibly excited to visit the Art Show and see the amazing artwork on display. The students loved admiring the creativity and talent throughout the school. In Religion, we have been exploring social justice issues in our community and around the world. We have been discussing fairness, kindness and how our actions can make a difference to others. In Reading, we are almost at the end of our class novel, Charlotte’s Web. We have particularly enjoyed thinking about what makes a true friend and the ways Charlotte shows her loyalty for Wilbur. It has certainly been a wonderful couple of weeks of learning, laughter, creativity and discovery. We are looking forward to an exciting few weeks ahead as we continue preparing for our Exhibition of Learning in Week 10. All are welcome!
Year 4
This fortnight, Year 4 have enjoyed beginning our study of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. We really enjoyed all the Book Week celebrations, including the parade, dressing up as our favourite characters and decorating our classroom door with our favourite book. In Literacy, students have explored how descriptive language, precise vocabulary and powerful verbs can be used to create vivid settings and strengthen their narrative writing. In Mathematics, we have been developing our understanding of location and mapping. Students have been using coordinates, directional language and grid references to locate and describe positions, as well as following and creating pathways on maps. In Religion, we have continued exploring Church and Community by learning about key figures and their roles within the Catholic Church and our local community. Year 4 were also incredibly proud to lead our whole-school Coats for a Cause initiative through Mini Vinnies. It was wonderful to see our school community come together to support people experiencing food insecurity and put our faith into action.
Year 5
What a busy two weeks we have had in Year 5! We loved celebrating Book Week and seeing everyone dressed as their favourite book characters. For Book Day, we transformed our classroom door into a giant Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Wonka Bar and were delighted to win the Best Door Display! The students also explored different book characters, drawing and describing them using interesting adjectives.
In Mathematics, we have been exploring decimal numbers through length and mass, including converting measurements such as millimetres to metres and grams to kilograms using decimals. In Religion, we have been learning about the Sacraments and are now exploring important rituals and symbols within the Church. In Reading, we continue to enjoy our class novel, Tom Appleby, Convict Boy, following Tom’s journey aboard the Scarborough.
We also loved visiting the Art Show and seeing the amazing creativity and artwork on display throughout the school.
Year 6
What a great two weeks we have had in Year 6! We enjoyed dressing up and celebrating our favourite characters and books. For Book Day, we created a poster of different books and characters, to later display in our whole school assembly.
In Mathematics, we have been converting equivalent lengths from millimetres all the way to kilometres.
In our reading and writing we have finished our class book ‘Once’ and our information report on Poland. We have now started writing a survival story, specifically looking at setting descriptions using figurative language.
We also loved visiting the Art Show and seeing the incredible creativity and talent on display throughout the school. It has been wonderful to see our class engaging enthusiastically in all of our learning and school activities.
