2025 Winter Lightning Premiership
By Lulu and Harrison, 6B
On the 12th of June, Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to compete and represent our school in our annual winter lightning premiership. The weather was beautiful and sunny, the atmosphere was full of excitement and everyone was there to try their very best; whether it was competitively or just for fun.
All students had a choice between 4 different sports; Netball, T-ball, Soccer and AFL 9’s. All together, Carnegie had 13 teams compete across these four different sports on the day including 7 developmental (Blue) teams and 6 competitive (Gold) teams.
Out of these 13 teams, we had a number of teams win multiple games, however Carnegie unfortunately had no teams qualify for the next round but even so, we are very proud of everyone's efforts.
For Netball and AFL 9’s, we were lucky enough to have a handful of SEDA college students in either year eleven or twelve, umpire our games. They did a great job at handling the pressure and although not all decisions went Carnegie’s way, the students showed great sportsmanship and respect towards these officials and never went against their call.
We would also like to give a massive thank you on behalf of everyone who supported us on the day, specifically our teachers and our parent helpers Ben (Alfie), Ben (Zac), Andrew and Sian (Letitia) and Fiona (Emily). We appreciate the efforts of you all and thank you for the support at each individual sport. Without you, the day would not be able to go on.
A special thanks should also go to the Glen Eira Football Club for their continued support of our Lightning Premiership. Each year, Stewart Howell (General manager) allows us to borrow their goals on the day and it makes the day feel that little bit more special.
Now let's hear some opinions from some year 5,6 students about the day…
