Students have settled back into STEM wonderfully this term and have loved getting straight into hands-on learning.
In the P-2 area, students began the term by reading the "Three Billy Goats Gruff" and then building their own bridge for the goats to safely cross the river. They were able to choose between Lego or Recyclable Materials. We then tested them with our three toy goats to ensure that the bridge was strong, stable and durable. Some students extended themselves and created a Troll to hide under the bridge. This was lots of fun.
In the 3-4 area, students completed a range of experiments with various materials. Firstly, they were given 3 pieces of paper, tape and scissors and had to create the Tallest Free- standing Tower in 15 minutes. Then they had the challenge of creating the smallest, lightest package to protect a pringle travelling from Lockington to the United States via mail. Students quickly learnt about the importance of soft and waterproof materials.
In the 5-6 area, Students unpacked the importance of materials and their properties. They were then given a design brief to create a Marble Rollercoaster. The materials they could use was restricted to paper, cardboard, straws, glue, plates/bowls, sticks and tape. They had the lesson to produce the most creative, versatile and working Rollercoaster. Students tested, modified and shared their finished designs. Here are a few examples.
Did you know that every class now receives weekly AUSLAN lessons as part of our Language Other Than English (LOTE) Curriculum? Lynsey Dobson has taken on this role for Semester 2 and students have learn Australian Sign Language in the classrooms on Tuesdays or Fridays. The students have been very excited to learn about why people might need to communicate using this method, how to sign some basic words and have even been learning some songs. We can not wait to showcase their learning at our upcoming Art Show later in the term.
P.E NEWS
Athletics Practice
Students have been enthusiastically practicing for the Athletics Sports Day that will be held later this term. They have showed great determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship and they are looking forward to showcasing their skills on the big day.
Girls Football Carnival
Congratulations to Sienna C, Willow F, Nat M, Charlotte T, and Harriet G, who teamed up with students from Twin Rivers Primary and Moama Public School to compete in this week's Interschool Girls Football Carnival.
All of the students should be incredibly proud of the way they played, as well as the effort, teamwork, and determination they showed throughout the day. Most importantly, they made new friends, represented their schools with pride, and had a fantastic time.
A big thank you to the sport coordinators and the students from Twin Rivers Primary and Moama Public School for their support and collaboration in making this wonderful day possible.

The Preps had a fantastic time in the Art room this week, creating some beautiful celebration cakes to mark their 100 Days of School! You can see their awesome artworks above.
Last week students in Grades 1-4 celebrated Cow Appreciation Week where we discussed all the wonderful things we appreciate about cows (Milk! Cheese! Ice cream!) and then created some fantastic cow inspired artworks.
The 1/2 students also did some painting this week as part of a collaborative artwork they are creating for our Art Expo on September 3rd!
The 5/6 students have continued to work on the food truck paper sculptures that they began last term and have now started to construct some fantastic dioramas to display them. It has been great to see their creative ideas coming together.
