Year 5/6 News 

Welcome Back, 5/6 Families!

It has been a wonderful start to the term, and it has been great to see everyone return with such enthusiasm and positive energy.

The students have settled back into the classroom routines really well and have quickly reconnected with their classmates. They have been engaged in their learning, shown a positive attitude, and made a fantastic start to the term.

We look forward to another exciting term of learning and growth together. Thank you for your continued support—we're excited for all that lies ahead

Numeracy

This fortnight, students have been learning to estimate, measure, and identify angles using a protractor. Throughout our lessons, we have explored different types of angles, including acute, right, obtuse, straight, and reflex angles. Students have participated in a range of hands-on activities, such as estimating angles before measuring them, using protractors to measure and draw angles accurately, and identifying and sorting different angle types. These activities have helped students build confidence in using mathematical tools and develop their understanding of angles in everyday contexts.

Morphology

This term, our students have been exploring morphology by investigating root words and the prefixes and suffixes that change their meaning. So far we have been studying roots such as tract and ject using them to build new words, explore word meanings, and strengthen our vocabulary. Through word-building activities, sentence work, and discussions, students are developing a deeper understanding of how words are constructed, helping to improve their spelling, reading comprehension, and writing.
