Year 3/4 News 

Welcome back to Term 3! We hope you all enjoyed a relaxing and refreshing holiday break.

Students have had a wonderful start to the term and have enjoyed sharing their holiday recounts with the class during our daily speaking and listening sessions. It has been lovely to hear about their experiences and adventures over the break.

Literacy

In Reading and Writing, students have been exploring poetry by examining a range of poetic devices and the structures of different types of poems. They have enjoyed experimenting with these features in their own writing and have already created both cinquain and limerick poems. We look forward to sharing more of their creative work as the term progresses.

Numeracy 

Students have continued to develop strategies for solving worded problems, building their confidence in interpreting and applying mathematical concepts. They have further explored the factors and multiples of numbers and strengthened their understanding of the relationship between multiplication and division. Students have also worked on developing effective mental and written strategies for solving multiplication problems.

Inquiry Unit

This term, our inquiry topic is 'Lockington – Then and Now', where students are exploring their local community and the history of the area. Throughout the term, we will investigate how Lockington has changed since it was first established, with a particular focus on farming practices and the development of the community over time.

This week, we welcomed Wendy Sims, who shared her experiences of growing up in the area and spoke to the students about the many changes she has seen in the farming landscape since her childhood. Her stories provided valuable firsthand insights into how life and farming have evolved over the years.

Later this term, students will continue their learning through a range of engaging experiences, including a sheep shearing demonstration, a visit to the Heritage Centre, and an excursion to the Port of Echuca. These opportunities will help deepen their understanding of Lockington's rich history and how the community has developed over time.

Resilience Project

Students have explored strategies for managing their emotions, with a particular focus on recognising and responding to feelings of anger. They have also developed skills for managing stressful situations by identifying the level of challenge they may face and using appropriate coping strategies to regulate their emotions.
