Ms Lisa & Ms Kim

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope everyone enjoyed a restful break and had the opportunity to recharge over the holidays. We have another exciting term ahead, with plenty of engaging learning experiences, new challenges, and opportunities to grow. From our new novel study of The Grandest Bookshop in the World, to our dance program in Performing Arts, there is so much to look forward to. I can't wait to see what the incredible humans in 5/6L achieve this term!

Literacy - The Grandest Bookshop in the World

This term, we are exploring the fantastical story of The Grandest Bookshop in the World through our novel study. Alongside developing their comprehension and analytical thinking, students will use the text as inspiration for their own fantasy narrative writing, crafting imaginative stories filled with rich description and creative ideas. We are also incredibly excited to welcome the book's author, Amelia Mellor, to our learning space on Monday 10th August, giving students the unique opportunity to hear firsthand about the writing process and the inspiration behind this wonderful story. Copies of Amelia's fabulous books are available to buy via the QR code or link below, and will be signed for students on the day of the incursion.

Inquiry - Paradise Island

In Inquiry this term, we are heading to Paradise Island for our Business and Economics unit. Students will investigate how communities make decisions about resources, businesses, and the wants and needs of their citizens. As part of this engaging unit, students will create and develop their own market stall, making thoughtful decisions about how it should be designed, managed, and marketed.

To complement this learning, students have also been applying their understanding of area and perimeter in Mathematics by designing pixel maps of their islands, bringing together creativity and mathematical thinking in a meaningful, real-world context.

Education in Faith

This term in Ed in Faith, we are exploring the lives of the saints and the important role they play in the life of the Church. Our first focus is St Francis Xavier, the patron saint of our school, as we learn about his life, his missionary work, and the way he shared his faith with others. Through this unit, students will be encouraged to reflect on how the example of the saints can inspire us to live with courage, compassion, and service in our own lives.
