Literacy - The Grandest Bookshop in the World

This term, we are beginning our novel study on The Grandest Bookshop in the World. Students will be using the story to build their comprehension skills, discuss characters and events, and explore the many creative ideas throughout the text. We will also use the book as inspiration for our own fantasy narrative writing, where students will create imaginative stories with strong descriptions, interesting settings, and exciting ideas.

We are also very excited to welcome the author, Amelia Mellor, to our learning space on Monday 10th August. This will be a wonderful opportunity for students to hear about her writing process, where her ideas come from, and what it is like to be an author. Copies of Amelia’s books are available to purchase using the QR code or link below, and students will have the chance to have them signed on the day of the incursion.

Inquiry/Math - Paradise Island

In Inquiry this term, students are off to Paradise Island as part of our Business and Economics unit. Throughout the unit, they will explore how communities make choices about resources, businesses, and the wants and needs of the people who live there. Students will also have the chance to create their own market stall, thinking carefully about what they will sell, how their stall will look, and how they can attract customers. This learning also connected with our Mathematics focus on area and perimeter. Students will use their skills to design maps of their islands, combining creativity, problem-solving, and maths in a fun and practical way. Students have then been given the opportunity to use their map to build their own island on Minecraft, keeping in mind 1 square cm is 1 block. 

Education in Faith

This term in Education in Faith, students are learning about different saints and the ways they lived out their faith. To begin the term, we have been focusing on Saint Francis Xavier, our school’s patron saint. This week, students explored his story and created fact files about his life, including why and how he became a saint, the places he travelled to, and the values he displayed. As we continue this unit, students will reflect on how the choices and actions of the saints can inspire us to show kindness, courage, and service in our own lives.
