At Oakleigh Grammar, we believe that giving back to the community is one of the most meaningful ways to learn, grow, and make a difference. Acts of kindness, generosity, and compassion help us strengthen our school’s values and remind us of the power we have to support others. This term, our school community has come together through a series of initiatives that truly reflected our spirit of care and connection, from fundraising and appreciation days to supporting those in need.

Our school’s Loud Shirt Day fundraiser was a colourful and heartfelt event that united students and staff in vibrant style, all for a great cause! Held on Friday, 17 October, the day encouraged everyone to wear their loudest, brightest, and most eye-catching shirts to raise awareness and funds for children with hearing impairments. The energy in the hallways was infectious, as laughter, colour, and creativity filled the school.

Loud Shirt Day is part of a national initiative where schools, organisations, and communities raise funds to support specialised programs, hearing aids, and resources for children with hearing loss. These contributions are vital, helping children gain access to the tools and support they need to succeed both academically and socially.

Students and staff proudly donated a gold coin, with all funds going directly towards improving educational and social opportunities for children with hearing impairments. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed managing to raise $955.70.  Your generosity helps make a lasting difference!

On Friday, 31 October, we also celebrated World Teachers’ Day, with this year’s theme.  Students showed their gratitude to the dedicated teachers and staff of Oakleigh Grammar who work tirelessly to educate, inspire, and empower them every day. As a gesture of appreciation, students presented their teachers with thoughtful gifts, lolly bags and adorable cards with heartfelt handwritten messages. It was a truly special moment of gratitude and joy. On behalf of all staff, we sincerely thank our students for their beautiful and thoughtful gifts!

As the festive season approaches, we are reminded of the importance of compassion and community support. Oakleigh Grammar is proud to host a Christmas Appeal for the Greek Welfare Centre, running until Monday 17 November.

We are collecting non-perishable food items to help families in need during this special time of year. Donations can be brought to Home Group, where SRC members will collect them, or delivered directly to the Front Office.

We warmly invite our community to show generosity and goodwill by contributing whatever they can. Every donation, big or small, will help bring comfort and joy to those who need it most.
