As part of the careers program at Oakleigh Grammar, Year 10 students have the opportunity to complete a work experience placement in one week of either their July or September school holidays.  Employers find that students who are willing to sacrifice a week of their holidays to delve into the world of work very favourable.  With that said, 2 of our students sought opportunities in the term 3 holiday break in Pharmacy and Dentistry.

Feedback from their employers was exemplary.  Congratulations to these students - Mohneet Kaur and Elly Alexopoulos in seeking out these opportunities and presenting themselves in a professional and enthusiastic manner.  Mohneet has provided us with a reflection of her experience below and was also featured on her employers Instagram page!

WORK EXPERIENCE REFLECTION

During my work experience at a dental clinic, I gained a great understanding of what it’s like to work in a professional healthcare environment. I observed a range of dental procedures, including root canals, tooth extractions, and teeth cleans, which showed me how important hygiene, precision, and patient care are in dentistry. I also had the chance to sterilise equipment, which helped me see how vital infection control is for keeping both patients and staff safe. The team was very welcoming and always guided me whenever I had questions or wasn’t sure about something. Overall, this experience helped me build my confidence, communication, and teamwork skills. It also confirmed my interest in pursuing a future career in healthcare.
