News from Year Six

Madagascar Production
Only 3 weeks to go! Ms Bourke and Mrs Vranken have done an amazing job at creating costumes for most of the Year 6 students. However, some students have been asked to bring particular additional items of clothing. Please ensure that these are brought to school in a clearly labelled bag - by yesterday!
Bizarre Bazaar - Madagascar Themed
Students have finished designing their Madagascar-themed products and are either putting finishing touches to prototypes or have already started mass producing their creations. Next Friday, at our Year 6 assembly, we will launch our advertising campaign where students will use different persuasive techniques within their advertisements. These products will be on sale at the end of the Madagascar performance with all profits going to a charity of the students' choice.
Maths
We have just finished our unit on Patterns and Early Algebra and are now moving into a Fractions unit where students will compare, add and subtract fractions with different denominators. Some at home activities include: cooking together (doubling or halving recipes, pouring liquids into measuring jugs with fractional amounts) or cutting food into pieces and comparing sizes (eg 'Which is bigger - 2/3 of a toastie or 3/4?')
Round Robin Sports Day
We were so proud of all our students at the Round Robin Sports Day. They displayed excellent sportsmanship, supported each other, helped out new players with advice, included everyone, respected officials , competed with their best efforts and were all round great representatives of our school. In addition, our two netball teams performed very well. Both teams made it into finals and both teams won their final's game. St Joseph's Dark came away with the trophy and St Joseph's Light came away with third place.
