日本語 Japanese

Konnichiwa from Japanese class!

August the 6th and 9th mark 80 years since atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki — the only time nuclear weapons have been used in war. Today, we learned about what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki 80 years ago. Students watched the survivor's tale and wrote "May peace prevail on earth" in three different languages, and designed their peace signs. Please come and look at those posters that students made in the library when you have a chance. Grade 3 also made the decorations with an origami dove. Grades 4,5, and 6 are learning how to make an origami crane, but we didn't complete it today.

"May peace prevail on earth" in Japanese is

平和が地球上に広まりますように (Heiwa ga chikyuujou ni hiromarimasu you ni) !

The experience of Hiroshima and Nagasaki 80 years ago should be proof enough that nuclear weapons are too dangerous for the world to keep. Students had a great discussion today and learned about how important it is to learned what happened and pass it on to the next generation.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
