Foundation News

This week, we have started our Home Reading program in Foundation. Reading folders with information about the program have been sent home with students. Please read this information to help answer any questions you may have about the program.

Students have embraced this next step in their reading journey and are enthusiastically engaging in Independent Reading in their classroom each day.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Students need to bring their reader satchel to school every day as we use these daily in the classroom.
  • Students need to use their reader satchel to carry their reading items to and from school. This bag has been specifically selected for its durability and quality (it is waterproof!).
  • Reader satchels will continue to be used for library books.

Year One News

The Year 1 students have begun the term by exploring a range of strategies for addition and subtraction. So far, they have learned the importance of partitioning numbers to make ten and twenty, as well as counting on for addition and counting back for subtraction. The students have also been using number lines to support their understanding.

In Literacy, students have been learning about the “oa” and “ow” digraphs to help them read and write words with these sounds. They have also been creating rhyming poems and are now beginning their new Narrative unit. We are looking forward to publishing our Narratives in a few weeks and having the opportunity to read our stories to students in the other class.
