STEM in Term 2: Exploring Technology and Coding
This term in STEM, our focus is on Technology, with an emphasis on coding and programming across all year levels. Students will be developing their problem-solving skills, creativity, and logical thinking as they explore how technology works and how they can use it to create, design, and innovate.
Each year level will be engaging with a range of hands-on tools and digital platforms suited to their learning stage. The younger students will begin their coding journey using interactive robots such as Bee-Bots, Blue-Bots, and Indi. These tools help students understand sequencing, directions, and basic programming concepts in a fun and engaging way.
As students' progress, they will explore more advanced technologies including Sphero robots and LEGO robotics kits. These resources allow students to experiment with movement, sensors, and challenges that require critical thinking and teamwork.
Students will also dive into digital coding platforms such as Scratch and Minecraft Education. Through these programs, students will create animations, games, and interactive worlds while learning key programming concepts like loops, conditionals, and debugging.
Throughout the term, students will be encouraged to think like designers and engineers—planning, testing, and improving their ideas. Our goal is to build confidence and curiosity in using technology, while also helping students understand the important role it plays in the world around them.
I look forward to sharing some of the amazing creations and projects our students develop throughout the term.
