David Morris School Visit

On Tuesday 8th of May students from Years 7-12 were very fortunate to hear a motivational talk from 3-time Olympian David Morris.

David spoke of the dedication and effort that comes with being a professional athlete, including some serious injuries along the way!

Dave emphasised to our students the importance of working on the basics and that without the dedication to this you never fully achieve your potential.

It was an amazing talk and one that we are sure will continue to motivate our students through NAPLAN, the ends of Unit 1 and 3 as well as upcoming CATs.

David has kindly donated 2 copies of the book that he has written which is available to borrow through the school library.

As you can tell by the photos it is hard to tell who was more excited about having David visit, the students or the teachers.

My Parliament Experience

Last week I had the opportunity to go to Parliament House in Canberra. This opportunity was funded through the Star Light Foundation by granting my wish. This was a once in a lifetime experience which included a full tour of Parliament House including a session of Question Time in the House of Representatives.

The general public usually aren’t allowed to go into the members areas, but I was fortunate enough to. In the members area I met with the Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, where I spent some time with him in his office. He even wheeled me out from his office to the front of Parliament House for a photograph.

On my last day in Canberra, I received an honourable request to meet with the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in his office, which was a huge experience for me. He presented me with an Australian flag which was raised in honour of my advocacy work back in September last year, along with this I receive a certificate from Parliament certifying this.

My favourite part of the overall experience was attending a personal meet and greet with David Speers, who is a political commentator working for Sky news and has his own segment. I was star struck as I watch him regularly. I was thrilled to discover he had personally mentioned me during his latest segment.
