LXRP works

The Level Crossing Removal Project provided this update and photos of the construction for school communities.

In case you haven’t noticed … Mentone is currently home to the biggest level crossing construction blitz ever undertaken. Our crews have been working 24 hours a day since late May, removing the boom gates in Mentone and Cheltenham, digging the 2.5km-long trench and building the new stations. We’ve removed 200,000 cubic metres of soil – that’s enough dirt to fill 74 Olympic sized swimming pools.

Pedestrians are now able to cross Balcombe Road, and the road will be open to vehicle traffic from Tuesday 23 June (weather permitting). Please always follow the instructions of traffic controllers. Buses will replace trains between Moorabbin and Mordialloc, and between Frankston and Stony Point until Sunday 26 July.

Trains will be back up and running on Monday 27 July. The brand new Mentone Station will open on Monday 3 August, with Cheltenham Station opening on Monday 17 August.

Finishing touches on the stations, car parking, landscaping and works on the new walking and cycling path will continue until the end of the year.
